Nairobi, Kenya – Goons allegedly hired by politicians to safeguard properties during anti-government protests in Nairobi are now demanding their payment.
A video shared online by blogger Nyakundi shows one of the goons holding a crude weapon and lamenting how they were “used and dumped.”
The goon, visibly frustrated, claims that politicians are not picking their calls after they completed their work.
On July 2, 2024, videos of goons taking advantage of the protests to loot public properties were widely shared by Kenyans.
The chaotic scenes in the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) drew significant public outcry, prompting a response from the government.
Interior Cabinet Secretary CS Kindiki issued a stern statement vowing to take on the goons at all costs. “We will not tolerate lawlessness and impunity. Those involved in looting and vandalism will face the full force of the law,” Kindiki stated.
The protests, which were initially peaceful, turned violent as groups of goons allegedly took the opportunity to loot and destroy property.
The situation escalated, forcing many businesses to close and causing significant disruptions in the city.
The goons, who claim to have been hired by a well-known Nairobi politician, are now publicly demanding their dues.
The unidentified goon in the video expressed his frustration, saying, “We did our job, now they are not picking our calls.
We were used and dumped
.”As the situation unfolds, the public and authorities alike are calling for accountability from all parties involved, including the politicians allegedly behind the hiring of the goons.
