There was panic and dramatic scenes in Ndarugu area of Kiambu County after a stray rhino wandered into a busy village, forcing residents and motorists to flee for safety. A video circulating online shows terrified villagers, boda boda riders, and motorists scrambling to escape as the agitated animal charged along the road.
According to eyewitnesses, several motorcycle riders were forced to abandon their bikes and run for their lives as the rhino moved aggressively through the area.
Some motorists quickly jumped out of their vehicles and fled on foot, while others chose to remain locked inside their cars, hoping the animal would pass without attacking.
The tense standoff brought traffic to a standstill as fear gripped the area. In the video, a helicopter is seen hovering overhead, guiding the rhino away from residential zones toward a safer and more secure location.

The aerial intervention appeared aimed at preventing harm to both residents and the animal.
In a statement accompanying the video, witnesses described “tense moments as motorists and riders in Kiambu came across a violent roaming rhino in Ndarugu area, forcing them to seek refuge in their cars.”
Authorities later moved in to secure the area as residents watched anxiously. No injuries were reported, but the incident reignited concerns over human-wildlife conflict in regions bordering wildlife habitats.
