Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Senator Edwin Sifuna has sparked intense debate both within the party and on social media after strongly responding to threats and criticism from a section of ODM leaders over his stance on the proposed broad-based government arrangement.
The controversy erupted after Sifuna publicly opposed any move by ODM to work with President William Ruto’s administration without broad consultations.
His remarks drew sharp criticism from some party allies and commentators, including blogger Robert Alai and ODM MP Paul Atandi, who accused him of disobeying the party line. Some went as far as calling for his removal from the powerful Secretary General position, terming his comments reckless and divisive.
However, in a defiant video that has since circulated widely online, Senator Sifuna hit back at his critics, making it clear that he would not be intimidated into silence.

Speaking during a public event, the Nairobi Senator stated that he was elected to speak the truth and defend the values of the ODM party, regardless of pressure from within.
Sifuna emphasized that no individual or group had the authority to threaten him for expressing his opinion, especially on matters that affect millions of Kenyans.
He maintained that those attacking him for opposing President Ruto were acting on their own personal interests and not on any official ODM party position.
“The ODM party belongs to the people of Kenya, not a few individuals,” Sifuna said, adding that any decision to work with the Kenya Kwanza administration must involve wide consultations with party members and the public.
He insisted that ODM cannot enter into any political arrangement behind closed doors without seeking the views of Kenyans.
The video has elicited mixed reactions, with some ODM supporters praising Sifuna for standing firm and defending democratic principles, while others accuse him of undermining party unity.
As the debate continues, Sifuna’s remarks have once again exposed deep divisions within ODM over its future political direction.
