A dramatic scene unfolded at the Kanyuambora Polling Station in Mbeere North Constituency after Cabinet Secretary Ruku was forced to leave the area following a confrontation with electoral officials and agitated residents.
According to a video circulating widely on social media, the Cabinet Secretary arrived at the polling centre in the company of his entourage, drawing immediate attention from voters and election officials.
In the footage, CS Ruku is seen approaching an Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officer, seemingly to engage him in conversation.
However, the officer promptly directs him to leave the premises, reminding him that government officials are not permitted to interfere with the voting process.
Campaign activities officially ended earlier in the week, and non-essential visits by political figures are strictly prohibited during polling.
Despite the officer’s instructions, CS Ruku attempts to interact with residents gathered around the station.

This seems to heighten tensions, as several voters begin chanting, insisting that he leave the area immediately. The crowd accuses him of attempting to influence the ongoing by-election, urging him to respect electoral boundaries and allow voters to exercise their democratic rights without intimidation.
IEBC officials at the polling station are reported to have reinforced their commitment to ensuring a transparent process. They have called on all political leaders, agents, and government officials to keep off polling centres unless they are accredited for official election duties.
The Mbeere North by-election has generated significant interest, featuring a competitive race between UDA Party’s Wamudhende and Karish of the United Opposition DP Party. With rising political temperatures in the region, the IEBC has urged all stakeholders to maintain peace and allow the electorate to decide freely.
Security personnel have since been deployed to monitor the situation and ensure voting proceeds smoothly across all polling stations in the constituency.
