President William Ruto is facing fresh political pressure following dramatic scenes reported in Trans Nzoia County, where youths were captured on video burning United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party merchandise and chanting “one term” slogans.
The incident, which has since gone viral on social media, is being interpreted by some observers as a sign of growing discontent at the grassroots level.
According to the widely shared video, the chaos erupted after a meeting allegedly organized by individuals associated with the ruling party.
The gathering reportedly drew local residents with promises of financial facilitation. However, tensions flared when attendees claimed the pledge was not honored as expected.

One woman interviewed at the scene alleged that participants had been promised KSh 1,500 each for attending the meeting. She claimed that after the event ended, attendees were instead given only KSh 100 before the organizers reportedly disappeared.
Feeling shortchanged and deceived, a section of the youths reacted angrily, accusing the organizers of exploiting them for political mobilization.
In protest, the youths were seen setting fire to UDA-branded T-shirts and chanting slogans critical of President Ruto’s leadership.
Some could be heard warning that unless leaders kept their promises and addressed the economic hardships facing ordinary Kenyans, they would vote the president out in the 2027 General Election.
The incident comes at a time when the government is under increasing scrutiny over the high cost of living, unemployment, and stalled development projects in parts of the country.
While UDA officials are yet to issue an official statement on the Trans Nzoia incident, the video has sparked heated debate online, with Kenyans divided over whether the protest reflects genuine frustration or isolated misconduct.
Political analysts note that such scenes, if repeated, could pose a challenge for the ruling party as it seeks to consolidate support ahead of future elections.
For now, the Trans Nzoia incident adds to a growing list of public expressions of dissatisfaction that the government may not ignore.
