A dramatic incident involving DP Party leader Hon. Justin (JB) Muturi sparked a heated debate on Thursday after a video circulated widely online appearing to show him grabbing a voter by the neck during the ongoing Mbeere North by-election.
The footage, shared across major social media platforms and picked up by several mainstream media outlets, captured a tense exchange outside one of the polling stations.
According to those who shared the video, trouble began when a man alleged to be an agent aligned with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) arrived at the polling centre wearing party-branded colours, a move said to be in violation of election regulations.

Witnesses claimed that Muturi and his team had earlier raised concerns with IEBC officials regarding the presence of individuals displaying party insignia within voting areas.
In the video, a second individual accompanying the alleged UDA agent is seen engaging Muturi in a brief verbal confrontation before attempting to flee. Moments later, Muturi appears to pursue him, grabbing him by the neck and pushing him towards the roadside as his bodyguards intervene to separate the parties.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the incident, Muturi defended his reaction, insisting he had only sought to prevent what he described as “blatant disregard for election rules.” He further claimed that his team had alerted IEBC officers repeatedly but felt their concerns were not acted upon promptly.
“I did not attack anyone,” Muturi said. “All we wanted was for the officials to ensure the law is followed. You cannot allow people to walk into polling stations wearing party colours, especially when tensions are already high.”

IEBC officials in the region have not yet issued a formal statement regarding the confrontation, though police officers were later deployed to restore calm as voting proceeded. The video continues to spark mixed reactions online, with some defending Muturi’s actions and others condemning the altercation.
