Nairobi, Kenya – The Jubilee Party has finally broken its silence on the ongoing debate surrounding the Orange Democratic Party (ODM) leadership and the 2022 general election results.
This comes after Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohammed accused former President Uhuru Kenyatta of trying to divide ODM by backing Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and allegedly promising over 1 billion shillings to influence defections from the party.
Speaking at the Jubilee Party headquarters in Nairobi, in a meeting attended by Deputy Party Leader Dr. Fred Matiang’i and Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, Kioni addressed the claims head-on.

According to Kioni, former President Uhuru Kenyatta “did everything possible” to ensure ODM leader Raila Odinga ascended to State House in 2022.
However, he revealed a critical hiccup that undermined these efforts. “Funds intended for agents under the Azimio la Umoja coalition were not properly channeled,” Kioni said.
“As a result, agents were not paid, and vital votes were left unprotected, ultimately contributing to Raila Odinga’s defeat.”
The Jubilee Party official appeared to place the blame squarely on mismanagement within ODM rather than any lack of support from Uhuru or Jubilee.
“The structures were in place, the financial support was ready, but once it reached the coalition’s office, it did not reach the agents who were on the ground safeguarding votes,” Kioni added.
This statement indirectly counters Junet Mohammed’s allegations, suggesting that internal party issues, rather than any external interference, played a significant role in the election outcome.
The revelations are likely to stir further debate within ODM, as the party continues to grapple with its post-Raila leadership transition.
With tensions rising in the political landscape, analysts say clarity on party financing and election strategies will be crucial as Kenya approaches future polls.
