Trouble For Twitter, Facebook, Instagram In Kenya As New Law Is Proposed

Social media is a powerful tool that is used in shaping the world. Just few weeks ago, Kenyans through social media platforms staged a massive protests against the finance bill.

The protests was joined by various people across the world who voiced their concerns on the bill. Eventually, the Parliament was stormed by youths who were demanding accountability leading to the suspension of the whole bill.

Well, the mobilization and successfulness of the Protests in Kenya has triggered a reaction from political class. Those who were affected are now proposing new radical laws to manage youths online.

Nominated Senator Orwoba has called for the regulation of X in Kenya formerly Twitter. According to her, people are using the platforms to abuse, bully and share vital information to other without permission. She pointed out recent legislation in Brazil where X platform was banned for not following country laws.

She has gone ahead to ask regulation authority in the country to check if platforms such as X, Facebook TikTok and Instagram are registered in Kenya. If not, she has proposed radical laws and establishment of physical offices in Kenya where offences can be reported.

Kenyans Reactions.

Asection of Kenyans are asking senator Orwoba to stop her sideshows and instead focus on what is important now.

“Kenyans are facing so many challenges that are affecting them. Why should we always remind this people their roles? It is sad to watch” Posted Robert.
