Trouble for Gachagua After Winning the Ol-Kalou By-Election
OL-KALOU, KENYA — Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua finds himself in a fresh political storm just days after celebrating a massive victory in the highly contested Ol-Kalou constituency by-election.
The by-election, which drew national attention, saw Gachagua’s preferred candidate deliver a resounding defeat to the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party candidate.
The stakes were incredibly high; the ruling party reportedly invested heavily in the region to secure a win, triggering complaints from neighboring constituencies that demanded a fair share of the state resources and developmental goodies being poured exclusively into Ol-Kalou.

However, the sweet taste of victory for the former Deputy President has quickly turned sour. During the post-election celebrations, Gachagua issued triumphant remarks that have since landed him in deep legal and political trouble.
Critics argue his statements crossed the line from political chest-thumping into dangerous rhetoric.
In a swiftly convened press conference, Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi led a fierce onslaught against Gachagua. Sudi condemned the remarks, labeling them highly divisive and toxic for a country still recovering from recent political tensions.
“We cannot allow leaders to weaponize local elections to divide Kenyans,” Sudi stated during the presser. “Gachagua should be arrested immediately and charged with incitement.”
Sudi called upon police officers and national security agencies to act without delay, insisting that arresting the former DP is necessary to ensure Kenya remains peaceful and stable.
As pressure mounts from the Kenya Kwanza leadership, all eyes are now on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to see whether they will act on Sudi’s demands.
What was meant to be a political resurrection for Gachagua after his impeachment has now opened a dangerous new battlefield.
