Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has once again clarified the terms of his political cooperation with Wiper party leader and former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, as the two continue shaping their joint strategy ahead of the 2027 general election.
The two leaders, who have been seen increasingly united in recent months, are working under an emerging coalition expected to challenge President William Ruto’s bid for re-election.
While it is widely presumed that Kalonzo will be the coalition’s presidential flag bearer, questions have persisted regarding the nature of the power-sharing agreement between his Wiper Party and Gachagua’s DCP Party.
Speaking during a church service in Kasarani on Sunday, Gachagua moved to dispel speculation, insisting that there will be no internal battles within Nairobi politics.

Gachagua firmly stated that misunderstandings over seat allocations or political dominance “will not happen,” emphasizing that the emerging coalition is guided by strategy, not rivalry.
According to him, the DCP Party and Wiper have agreed on a structured arrangement that allows each party to field candidates only in areas where they hold significant grassroots support.
He explained that in Nairobi, DCP will support Wiper candidates in constituencies and wards where Wiper has a strong base, while Wiper will reciprocate in regions where DCP commands influence.
The objective, he said, is to avoid splitting votes and instead consolidate support to unseat UDA and ODM, which currently dominate the capital’s political landscape.
“This is not about competition within ourselves. We are here to win all seats in Nairobi by ensuring each party strengthens the other,” Gachagua remarked, assuring supporters that unity remains the foundation of their strategy.
As the political realignment gains momentum, observers note that Nairobi will be one of the key battlegrounds in the 2027 race, making coalition cohesion critical for the opposition’s success.
