Orange Democratic Party (ODM) Secretary General and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has finally addressed growing public curiosity over why he has not visited the grave of his late party leader, Hon. Raila Odinga, since his burial.
Since Raila’s passing, his gravesite has become a focal point for mourners from across the country and beyond, with political allies, supporters, and admirers making frequent visits to pay their respects.
During and after the burial ceremony, the Odinga family also received numerous gifts, including livestock and other tokens, reflecting the deep affection many Kenyans held for the veteran opposition leader.
Amid these visits, questions emerged over Sifuna’s absence, especially given his close political relationship with Raila, whom he has often described as his mentor and political godfather.

Speaking during celebrations marking Raila Odinga’s birthday at his Karen home, Sifuna explained that his decision was deliberate and guided by respect.
According to the ODM Secretary General, Raila had many friends, allies, and supporters who equally deserved time and space to mourn him without unnecessary congestion at the graveside.
Sifuna noted that mourning is deeply personal and does not always require a physical presence at the grave. He emphasized that his respect for Raila is expressed through actions and commitment to the ideals they shared, rather than public gestures.
In the widely shared video, Sifuna reaffirmed his loyalty to Raila’s political vision, stating that he remains committed to following the direction and plans laid out by the late ODM leader.
He vowed to continue implementing Raila’s policies and advancing his vision for the party and the country, just as he promised during the burial.
His remarks have sparked mixed reactions online, with supporters praising his honesty while others continue to debate the expectations placed on political leaders during moments of national mourning.
