Nairobi County Senator Edwin Sifuna has finally addressed growing calls for him to declare his presidential ambitions, revealing the one concern that has held him back despite mounting public pressure.
The embattled Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement has in recent months intensified political engagements across the country through the “Linda Mwananchi” initiative.
The campaign has seen him traverse various regions alongside Babu Owino, the Embakasi East Member of Parliament, and James Orengo, the Governor of Siaya County.
Their rallies have attracted significant crowds, with supporters increasingly urging Sifuna to vie for the presidency in the 2027 General Election and challenge incumbent William Ruto. However, Sifuna has remained non-committal—until now.
Speaking during a public event in Naitiri, Bungoma County, the outspoken senator candidly explained that his hesitation stems from uncertainty about the sincerity of those pushing him to run.

Sifuna questioned whether the enthusiasm he is currently receiving would translate into actual votes when it matters most.
He noted that political support in Kenya can often be unpredictable, with leaders sometimes being misled by temporary excitement that does not reflect the reality at the ballot.
“I must be sure that those telling me to run are ready to stand with me to the very end,” he said, drawing applause from the crowd.
He urged residents of Bungoma and Kenyans at large to demonstrate genuine support when the appropriate time comes, emphasizing that leadership decisions require careful consideration and commitment from both the candidate and the electorate.
Sifuna’s remarks have sparked fresh debate within political circles, with analysts interpreting them as a cautious but strategic approach to national politics.
Whether he will eventually throw his hat into the ring remains to be seen, but his latest comments suggest that the door to a presidential bid is still open.
