Kenyans have been left in shock after a bishop openly weighed into national politics during a church service, strongly praising President William Ruto while launching a sharp attack on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The incident, captured in a video that has since circulated widely on social media, has sparked mixed reactions across the country.
The bishop, who hails from Gatundu North, made the remarks while presiding over a church service attended by President Ruto.
In his sermon, the cleric lauded the Head of State for what he described as “tremendous progress” since assuming office in 2022, insisting that Ruto deserves a second term in 2027.
He argued that abandoning the President midway would be unfair, especially to the Mount Kenya region, which played a key role in his election.
Addressing the congregation, the bishop warned residents of the Mount Kenya region against what he termed as political deception.

He said the region would not be misled by leaders who, in his view, are more focused on attacking others rather than offering constructive alternatives.
Without mincing words, the cleric took aim at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of attempting to turn Kenyans against President Ruto.
Gachagua has recently been vocal in criticizing the Kenya Kwanza administration, urging voters not to re-elect President Ruto in 2027, citing unfulfilled campaign promises made during the 2022 elections.
The bishop dismissed these claims, saying the President should be given time to fully implement his development agenda.
However, the bishop’s political remarks from the pulpit have ignited a public debate. Many Kenyans online questioned whether religious leaders should take partisan positions, with some calling on clergy to remain neutral and focus on spiritual matters rather than political analysis.
As the 2027 elections draw closer, the incident highlights the growing intersection between religion and politics in Kenya, a trend that continues to divide public opinion nationwide.
