Kenyans have taken to social media to share mixed reactions after photos of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi dressed in traditional Indian attire emerged online, sparking playful debate and commentary across digital platforms.
Mudavadi had just returned to the country from an official trip abroad before making a condolence visit to the family of the late former Lugari Member of Parliament, Hon. Cyrus Jirongo, at their Nairobi residence.

Shortly afterward, on December 22, 2025, the Prime Cabinet Secretary joined members of the Indian community in Nairobi during a major cultural and religious celebration.
The event marked the 25th Silver Jubilee celebrations of the Shree Swaminarayan Gadi, where Mudavadi attended alongside the spiritual leader of Maninagar Shree Swaminarayan Gadi, His Holiness Jitendriya Priyadasji Swamiji Maharaj, and members of the faith. Photos from the event showed Mudavadi adorned in Indian traditional attire, a move that quickly ignited online conversations.

While some Kenyans humorously nicknamed him “Raj Musalia,” applauding his willingness to embrace cultural diversity, others questioned whether such dressing was necessary for a senior government official.
Supporters defended the Prime Cabinet Secretary, saying the outfit symbolized respect, diplomacy, and inclusivity, values Kenya prides itself on as a multicultural nation.
In a statement, Mudavadi emphasized the importance of unity, faith, and shared purpose, noting that the Swaminarayan faith is deeply rooted in acceptance, compassion, and togetherness.

He further acknowledged the Indian community’s significant contribution to Kenya’s economy, highlighting their role in job creation, enterprise growth, and charitable initiatives in education and humanitarian work.
According to Mudavadi, the Silver Jubilee celebration served as a reminder that faith, service, and collective responsibility can strengthen Kenya’s social fabric.
As reactions continue to pour in, the moment has once again placed national focus on Kenya’s diversity and the importance of mutual respect among communities.
