The Jubilee Party has finally broken its silence on the long-standing debate surrounding the 2022 General Election and how former Prime Minister Raila Odinga lost despite full backing from former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Speaking on the matter, Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni stated that the defeat was not due to a lack of political goodwill or campaign resources, but rather internal failures within the Azimio la Umoja coalition.

Uhuru Kenyatta Fundraised for Azimio Campaign
According to Kioni, former President Uhuru Kenyatta played an active role in fundraising for the Azimio campaign. He said the funds raised were properly allocated to Azimio for key election activities, including the payment of polling agents across the country.
“Uhuru was engaged in fundraising, and the resources were allocated to Azimio for the intended purposes, including the payment of agents,” Kioni stated.
Funds Mismanagement Cost Raila Victory
However, Jubilee claims that the funds were poorly managed once they reached Azimio’s secretariat. Kioni noted that the responsibility of overseeing the campaign resources lay with the coalition’s Secretary General, suggesting that internal mismanagement ultimately compromised the election outcome.
He added that if the funds had been handled correctly, Raila Odinga would have secured victory and occupied State House.
Jubilee Responds to Azimio Infighting
Kioni’s remarks come shortly after ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna accused Suna East MP Junet Mohamed of siphoning funds meant for Azimio agents during the 2022 elections. Jubilee’s comments appear to support claims that internal sabotage played a major role in Raila’s defeat.
“If we had managed it well, there is every likelihood that Raila would be in State House today,” Kioni said.
Renewed Calls for Accountability
As tensions continue within the Azimio coalition, Jubilee’s revelations have reignited public debate over accountability, transparency, and leadership within opposition politics. The statements have also reopened discussions on how internal failures can outweigh political support in determining election outcomes.
