As political temperatures slowly rise ahead of the 2027 General Election, fresh signals are emerging from within major parties that could significantly reshape the country’s political landscape.
Behind a series of meetings, statements and strategic consultations, a growing sense of urgency is becoming evident, especially among grassroots leaders who believe the party’s future direction is at stake.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Council of County Coordinating Chairs (CoCC) has now come out firmly to assert that the party must retain its independence and identity as it prepares for the next electoral cycle.
In a statement issued after consultations among county level leaders, the council emphasized that ODM should contest the 2027 elections as a standalone political force and field candidates at all levels, including the presidency.

According to the CoCC, ODM’s strength lies in its nationwide structures, loyal support base, and long-standing reform agenda, which should not be diluted through mergers, coalitions of convenience, or pre election political arrangements that compromise the party’s ideals.
The county chairs argued that ODM has consistently demonstrated its ability to mobilize voters and articulate national issues without relying on external political formations.
The council further noted that grassroots members across the counties have repeatedly expressed the desire to see the party present its own presidential candidate in 2027, terming it a critical step in reaffirming ODM’s relevance and bargaining power in national politics.
They warned that entering the election cycle without a clear independent path could demoralize supporters and weaken party structures on the ground.
At the same time, the CoCC stressed that remaining independent does not mean disengaging from national dialogue.
Instead, they said ODM should approach any future engagements from a position of strength, guided by its manifesto and the will of its members.
The declaration is expected to fuel debate within the party, particularly amid ongoing conversations about cooperation, alliances, and realignments ahead of 2027.
