Trans Nzoia County Governor George Natembeya has sparked fresh political speculation after he failed to attend a crucial Democratic Action Party (DAP) leadership meeting held within his own county.
The meeting, which brought together top party officials and grassroots delegates, went on without the county boss—an absence that has left supporters and political observers questioning his future in the Eugene Wamalwa-led party.
According to updates shared on DAP’s official website and social media platforms, the party convened its Central Management Committee before engaging delegates from Trans Nzoia County.
The leadership also officially opened new County and Regional Offices, a move aimed at strengthening the party’s grassroots structures and regional presence.

Notably, all key party leaders were present except Governor Natembeya, despite DAP being the party that sponsored him to the county’s top seat.
During the meeting, Cherengany Member of Parliament Hon. Patrick Simiyu was unanimously endorsed as the new DAP County Chairman, replacing Mr. Werunga.
The party further resolved that Trans Nzoia County would conduct grassroots elections within the next two weeks, reinforcing its commitment to internal democracy.
Additionally, the National Executive Council (NEC) and National Governing Council (NGC) are expected to meet within three weeks to deliberate on national strategy and organizational priorities.
The meeting was attended by DAP Party Leader Hon. Eugene Wamalwa, Deputy Party Leader Hon. Wafula Wamunyinyi, Secretary-General Hon. Eseli Simiyu, Mumias East MP Hon. Peter Salasya, several MCAs, and other party officials.
Governor Natembeya’s conspicuous absence has fueled talk of a possible fallout or a looming political realignment ahead of the 2027 general election.
While neither the governor nor DAP leadership has issued an official explanation, allies and supporters are now keenly watching his next move, amid growing whispers of a potential fresh political start outside the party.
