New health insurance cover, SHA has elicited mixed reactions in Kenya since its inception on October 1, 2024. The transition from the National Insurance Fund(NHIF) has been chaotic for a while now.
Several Kenyans across the country are crying for their inability to settle hospital bills using SHA. This is despite the health Cabinet Secretary Dr. Deborah Mulongo assurance that all is well.
Speaking after the Catholic Church criticized the government over the failure to implement the new system efficiently. She claimed that, the government disbursed over 1.9 billion shillings to Faith based hospitals and was planning to disburse the rest arrears before the end of month.

Well, despite assuring Kenyans that Sha is a good plan. He has elicited mixed reactions after his latest remarks.
According to Oscar Sudi, the new health insurance System has few problems, but it’s about 80 percent efficient. He has gone ahead to ask Kenyans to register in large numbers and benefit from the package that comes with it.
“There have been many questions about the effectiveness and reliability of SHA and I can assure Kenyans that after digging deep, I’m convinced it’s an improvement of the NHIF. We could be having teething problems but SHA is 80% efficient. Come February 2025, we’ll all agree that SHA was the best decision for Kenya’s healthcare.” Posted Oscar Sudi.
