Kenyans were left stunned after a viral video from Tanzania showed protesters holding aloft a large portrait of the late Orange Democratic Party (ODM) leader, Honorable Raila Odinga.
The demonstrators, reportedly gathered in Dar es Salaam, were seen chanting revolutionary songs while waving placards and national flags, with Raila’s image prominently displayed among them.
The footage, which has since spread widely across social media platforms, sparked an emotional reaction among Kenyans, many of whom expressed both surprise and admiration at the gesture.
Raila, a veteran opposition figure and democracy advocate, passed away recently, leaving behind a powerful legacy that clearly resonates beyond Kenya’s borders.

Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Orengo praised Tanzanian citizens for honoring Raila during their demonstrations, describing the act as a testament to the late leader’s enduring influence on regional politics.
“I wish to express solidarity with and support for the valiant men and women of Tanzania. East African leaders must introspect. Glad to see portraits of Raila Odinga flying high in Dar appreciating his progressive politics. The people of Tanzania will overcome,” Orengo wrote.
