Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi has sparked widespread public debate after making an unexpected announcement just days after being confirmed as a Senior Counsel.
Known for his fearless stance against judicial excesses and his vocal defense of junior advocates, Havi’s latest decision has left many Kenyans shocked and pleading with him to reconsider.
In a strongly worded statement shared publicly, Havi announced that he has withdrawn from the legal battle aimed at protecting the Nairobi Hospital from what he described as plunder by well-connected individuals within the government.
His declaration marked a sharp turn from his long-standing reputation as a relentless fighter for institutional accountability and good governance.
“I have given up on the legal quest to save Nairobi Hospital from plunder by well connected individuals in the Government of Kenya,” Havi stated.

“Sometimes, it is better to let hyenas cannibalise themselves. After all, it is those same individuals who will die at the Hospital they have destroyed.”
The statement triggered mixed reactions across the country. While some sympathized with Havi, citing frustration with entrenched corruption and systemic resistance, others urged him to stay the course, arguing that his voice and legal expertise are critical in the fight to protect public-interest institutions.
As a newly confirmed Senior Counsel, many Kenyans had hoped Havi would use his elevated status to intensify, not abandon, such high-profile battles.
His decision has reignited national conversations on corruption, reform fatigue, and the personal toll borne by those who challenge powerful interests.
