Trans Nzoia County Governor George Natembeya has resurfaced barely a day after his notable absence at the burial of the late Lugari Member of Parliament, Honorable Cyrus Jirongo, sparking fresh political debate and public curiosity.
Natembeya had been expected to attend the burial in Lumakanda, but his absence raised questions among mourners and leaders from the Western Kenya region.
According to a county official who spoke on his behalf during the funeral, the governor was unable to travel after being involved in a road accident.
The brief explanation, however, fueled speculation, especially on social media, with many Kenyans questioning the severity of the incident and his condition.
On Saturday, Natembeya put the speculation to rest after making a public appearance at Luuya Primary School grounds, where he attended the third edition final of the Governors Cup.

His arrival drew a warm reception from residents, with chants and cheers greeting him as he walked into the venue. Observers noted visible scratches on his body, seemingly confirming reports that he had indeed been involved in an accident.
Speaking to the crowd, the outspoken governor used the platform to advance his long-standing call for unity among the Luhya community.
Natembeya urged residents of the Mulembe nation to remain united, arguing that cohesion would give the region a stronger and more influential voice at the national negotiation table ahead of the 2027 General Election.
He maintained that for years, the Luhya community has been politically sidelined and only remembered during election seasons.
According to Natembeya, his push for unity has unsettled some political players who are uncomfortable with a consolidated Mulembe voting bloc.
“Some people are bitter when we speak about unity because they benefit when we are divided,” he remarked, emphasizing that unity is not about hostility but about fairness and respect in national politics.
His appearance, captured on video and widely shared online, has reignited political conversations in Western Kenya, with supporters praising his resilience while critics continue to question the circumstances surrounding his absence from Jirongo’s burial.
