From Accusation to Redemption: The Vindication of Joyce Onyango
NAIROBI, KENYA — In a dramatic turn of events, Geoffrey Mosiria, the Nairobi County Chief Officer for Health Facilities, has officially clarified the circumstances surrounding Joyce Onyango, a domestic worker previously accused of a heinous crime in Ruai.
Onyango made headlines weeks ago following the tragic death of her employer’s four-year-old child. Initial reports and social media speculation pointed toward a grim case of poisoning, painting Onyango as a fugitive.
However, Mosiria revealed that Onyango did not flee; instead, she voluntarily surrendered herself to the Umoja Two Police Station to cooperate with authorities.

The tide of the investigation turned following a comprehensive postmortem. Medical examiners confirmed the child’s cause of death was pneumonia and underlying infections, categorically ruling out poisoning.
Moved by her plight, Mosiria met with Onyango to help restore her dignity. Beyond clearing her name, he facilitated a life-changing career shift.
Onyango, who previously earned a meager KSh 6,000 monthly, has been offered a casual position at the new Rapid Rehabilitation Centre branch. Her salary has been nearly tripled to KSh 17,000 per month.
“I wish Joyce all the best,” Mosiria stated, emphasizing the importance of due process and compassion. For Onyango, the move marks a transition from a suspected criminal to a valued staff member, ending a nightmare sparked by tragedy and misinformation.
