Former presidential adviser Moses Kuria has broken his silence following a chaotic incident that disrupted the funeral of the late Alice Wangari Gakuyu, the mother of Embakasi North Member of Parliament James Gakuya, held in Makomboki, Murang’a County.
Kuria revealed that he was forced to leave the ceremony abruptly after learning of an alleged plot to instigate violence against leaders perceived to be opposed to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
In a strongly worded statement shared on social media, Kuria explained that the funeral had initially proceeded peacefully, with several leaders from across the political divide turning up to condole with MP Gakuya and his family.

However, the situation reportedly took a dramatic turn when intelligence reached him suggesting that chaos was being planned at the event.
“I left when I learnt of a plot to cause violence against those perceived to be opposed to Rigathi Gachagua,” Kuria stated.
He added that he was shocked by reports that the situation escalated to the point of physically assaulting Lamu Woman Representative Muthoni Marubu, an incident that has since sparked outrage online.
Kuria condemned the alleged violence in the strongest terms, questioning whether past presidents such as Jomo Kenyatta, Mwai Kibaki, or Uhuru Kenyatta would ever condone attacks against women at public gatherings.
In his statement, Kuria directly blamed Gachagua for the events that unfolded, accusing him of fostering intolerance and political aggression.
Addressing Gachagua directly, Kuria used unusually harsh language, describing him as “a coward, a despot and a dangerous man,” and warning that the alleged actions had crossed a red line.
“From today prepare for battle royale,” Kuria declared, signaling what appears to be an escalation of political tensions within the Mount Kenya region.
The incident has renewed debate about rising political intolerance and violence at public functions, with many Kenyans calling for restraint, accountability, and respect, especially during solemn events such as funerals.
