“Hot Air, Wild goose ” These were some of the words used by the supreme court of Kenya in 2022 while dismissing the election Petition filled by Raila Odinga against President William Ruto.
Raila Odinga rushed to the supreme court in an attempt to overturn President William Ruto’s victory. In his submission, he pointed out several reasons including fraud in the whole process. However, his case was dismissed by a seven person bench, leaving his supporters fuming.
It was not just losing the case that angered Azimio coalition members. It was the language used while dismissing the petition. Well, Chief Justice Martha Koome has taken an opportunity to apologize to Odinga and his supporters.
Speaking at Spice FM today, Thursday, November 7, 2024. Koome clarified why they used such phrases while dismissing Odinga’s petition. She stated that the case was filled without evidence to back it up and hence it was focused on a fishing expedition. It was therefore their duty to make a ruling on what was presented before them as a bench.
