A development tour in Tharaka Nithi County turned chaotic after leaders accompanying Deputy President Kithure Kindiki were heckled by residents, forcing some to cut their speeches short.
The incident, captured in a widely circulated video, shows an uneasy atmosphere as the Deputy President addressed locals in what is considered his political backyard.
Dr. Kindiki had taken time to introduce leaders who had joined him for the tour, expecting a warm reception. However, events quickly took an unexpected turn when the first speaker rose to address the crowd.
Tharaka Nithi Woman Representative Njeri Kinuthia was the first to face the crowd’s wrath.
As she began her speech, sections of the audience erupted into loud jeers and chants, making it impossible for her to proceed. Despite attempts to calm the crowd, the hostility persisted, forcing her to end her remarks prematurely.

The situation did not improve for the next speaker, who was also met with similar resistance. The crowd continued heckling, drowning out his voice and eventually compelling him to abandon his address.
An evidently concerned Dr. Kindiki stepped in to restore order, urging residents to respect their leaders and allow them to speak. He appealed for calm and emphasized the importance of dialogue and unity during such public engagements.
Political observers say the incident could signal underlying tensions within the region, raising questions about local political dynamics and shifting loyalties.
While the Deputy President maintained composure throughout the ordeal, the hostile reception of his allies highlights potential challenges ahead as leaders continue to engage with the public on development agendas.
The video has since sparked mixed reactions among Kenyans online, with some condemning the heckling while others view it as a reflection of growing public frustration.
