Jalang’o Sparks Outrage After Offering to Find Winnie Odinga a Husband in Heated Senate Race
Lang’ata Member of Parliament Felix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, has drawn widespread backlash following controversial remarks directed at East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Winnie Odinga during a weekend political rally.
The outspoken lawmaker, who is eyeing the Nairobi senatorial seat in the 2027 General Election, escalated his rhetoric shortly after Winnie formally declared her ambition to vie for the same seat.
Speaking before a charged crowd, Jalang’o firmly declared himself the next senator for Nairobi, citing his journey from humble beginnings in Homa Bay as proof that no political hurdle could stop him.
However, his campaign message took a personal turn when he questioned Winnie’s political readiness and asked the audience: “I must find her a man. Should I find her a man or not?” The comment was widely condemned by critics as dismissive, patronising, and unbecoming of an elected public official.

Beyond the personal jab, Jalang’o outlined a aggressive campaign strategy to defeat Winnie, who is the daughter of the late veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Claiming backing from President William Ruto, the MP vowed to apply unrelenting political pressure throughout the election season.
He mapped out a two-phase battle plan, asserting that he would beat Winnie during the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party nominations and defeat her again in the main election if she chose to contest on another ticket.
Winnie’s entry into the contest has significantly heightened political stakes within Nairobi County. While she recently took a lighter approach during a TikTok livestream—playfully referring to Jalang’o as an “uncle” and urging him to step aside—Jalang’o’s latest rally remarks signal a hostile contest ahead as both figures battle for control of the capital’s political landscape.
