President Dr William Samoei Arap Ruto and the late Hon Raila Odinga had an agreement that brought together the United Democratic Alliance and the Orange Democratic Movement Party.
But it seems as if there is more trouble in the Broadbased government as ODM send clear message to president Ruto ahead of his four days tour in Gusii Land.
Alego Usonga Member of Parliament Samuel Atandi has insisted that Nyanza remains an exclusive stronghold of the Orange Democratic Movement, asserting that pre-election framework agreements between ODM and the ruling United Democratic Alliance strictly prohibit UDA from fielding candidates in the region ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a consultative engagement with constituency stakeholders and local leaders in Siaya County, the lawmaker addressed growing speculation regarding political alignment within the broad-based government arrangement.
Atandi clarified that while ODM and UDA have established a functional partnership at the national level to stabilize governance, that cooperation does not grant the ruling party permission to encroach upon established ODM territories across the Nyanza region.
The Alego Usonga MP emphasized that strict zoning mechanisms constitute a foundational prerequisite for any joint political strategy between the two major parties.
He noted that ODM leadership has drawn clear boundaries to protect its parliamentary and grassroots dominance, warning that any attempt by UDA to sponsor competing candidates in Nyanza would violate the spirit of equal partnership and undermine mutual trust between coalition partners.
Atandi urged local residents and party supporters to disregard claims from rival factions attempting to dilute ODM’s political authority in the region.
He reiterated that the party’s grassroots structures remain fully intact and capable of securing all elective seats across Nyanza, from gubernatorial positions to ward representatives.
His firm stance reflects an escalating debate over electoral zoning within the broad-based coalition as leaders map out strategies for 2027.
By declaring Nyanza strictly off-limits to UDA aspirants, Atandi’s remarks signal that ODM intends to maintain absolute control over its traditional core voting bloc despite its working relationship with the national executive.
