Trouble is brewing within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) as prominent leadership figures, including Senator Oburu Odinga and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, digest a scathing political assessment.
The Oburu led faction is facing a lot of challenges ever since the demise of the Orange Democratic Movement Party leader Hon Raila Odinga last year.
Renowned governance expert Prof. Gitile Naituli evaluating the country’s current governance, Prof. Naituli characterized the Kenya Kwanza administration as a mediocre regime.
However, his sharpest warnings were reserved for the country’s main opposition outfit, declaring that political dynamics have fundamentally shifted and left ODM on extremely shaky ground.
According to Prof. Naituli, the era of ODM’s electoral dominance is rapidly drawing to a close. He projected a grim scenario for party stalwarts, noting that ODM will find it virtually impossible to secure any parliamentary seats in Nairobi in upcoming contests.
The loss of capital city footholds signals a dramatic erosion of national influence for the party once anchored by long-time opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Even more alarming for party insiders like Oburu Odinga and Gladys Wanga is the outlook in the party’s traditionally impenetrable stronghold of Nyanza. Prof. Naituli observed that following the political exit of Raila Odinga, the party’s structural foundation has frayed.
Without the centralizing force of its longtime leader, ODM will be fortunate to retain even five Members of Parliament across the entire Nyanza region in future elections.
The critical analysis points to a stark reality: local ground realities have transformed, voter priorities are shifting, and regional blocks are re-aligning rapidly. For Oburu, Wanga, and the remaining ODM high command, the warning from Prof. Naituli highlights an existential crossroads.
Without immediate structural reform and clear political strategy, ODM risks facing complete electoral displacement in both rural strongholds and urban epicenters.
