Mama Ida Odinga, the widow of the late Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga, has broken her silence on the growing tensions rocking the party, delivering a strong and emotional message to Kenyans during celebrations marking Raila’s birthday.
Speaking at the late Raila Odinga’s Karen home in Nairobi, Mama Ida first took time to thank Kenyans, ODM supporters, and all individuals who worked closely with her husband during his long political journey.
She praised their dedication, loyalty, and sacrifices, noting that Raila lived his life committed to democracy, social justice, and the unity of the Kenyan people.
Turning to the ongoing drama within ODM, Mama Ida addressed the public fallout between Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and Suna East MP Junet Mohammed over allegations surrounding the siphoning of agents’ funds.

Without taking sides, she urged the party leadership to avoid public confrontations that could weaken the party Raila spent decades building.
Mama Ida advised Sifuna and the entire ODM leadership to embrace dialogue as the only sustainable way of resolving internal disagreements. She emphasized that open and honest conversations would help preserve party unity and ensure ODM continues to represent the values Raila Odinga stood for.
According to her, disagreements are normal in politics, but how leaders handle them defines the strength and future of a party.
“Dialogue is what Raila believed in, even in the most difficult moments,” Mama Ida stated, adding that ODM must remain strong, focused, and people-centered.
In response, Edwin Sifuna welcomed Mama Ida’s advice, saying he is committed to engaging in dialogue to address issues affecting the party and its members.
He reaffirmed his loyalty to ODM and pledged to work with colleagues to safeguard party unity.
Mama Ida’s message has been widely praised by ODM supporters, many viewing it as a timely reminder of Raila Odinga’s legacy of consultation, resilience, and unity.
