Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has stirred fresh political conversation after declaring that Kenyans have encouraged him to pursue leadership far beyond current expectations.
Speaking in Mbeere North on Thursday during a campaign stop, Kindiki dismissed widespread narratives suggesting he is destined to serve only half a term or that President William Ruto faces an imminent defeat in the 2027 General Election.
In his remarks, Kindiki argued that the “one-term and two-term speculation” is largely driven by political detractors seeking to create rifts within the Kenya Kwanza government.
He claimed that after extensive consultations with Kenyans, many urged him to “serve four terms,” a statement that immediately set off debate about his future ambitions.
Political analysts say the comment signals Kindiki’s intention to position himself as a key contender in the post-Ruto succession matrix—potentially setting the stage for a long-term bid to succeed President Ruto once he completes his second term.

However, uncertainty still looms over whether President Ruto will retain Kindiki as his running mate heading into 2027.
Reports of internal realignments within the ruling coalition continue to surface, with speculation that the President could opt for a different deputy to consolidate support in vote-rich regions.
Kindiki’s latest remarks also thrust him deeper into the intensifying contest for the Mt Kenya political crown.
The Deputy President is expected to face off with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who has openly expressed his desire to reassert control as the region’s political kingpin.
Gachagua, who maintains a strong following in parts of Mt Kenya, has been positioning himself as the community’s most credible voice, often clashing with leaders aligned with the President.
As 2027 draws closer, Kindiki’s bold declaration adds another layer to Kenya’s evolving succession politics, with Kenyans keenly watching how alliances shift in the coming months.
