Suna East MP Junet Mohamed has ignited the political arena of Kenya after he criticized Chief Justice David Maraga. An aspirant for the 2027 presidential race. Junet expressed “pity” while watching Maraga address a very small crowd during his campaign.
In the midst of a heated debate about leadership and public trust, Junet’s attack has led to many questioning whether former top judicial officials should enter competitive party politics, especially when drawing such small crowds.
Speaking in Parliament on December 2, 2025, Junet was direct. He argued that retired public officers like Maraga should show dignity and humility when engaging in politics.

He said Maraga’s difficulty in attracting crowds was both embarrassing and not fitting for someone who once held the position of Chief Justice.
“You know, when I see the former chief justice sometimes campaigning, I just look at him, and then he’s addressing the 10 people. Mr. Speaker, I feel petty for him,” Junet said. These statements come as Maraga confirms his firm intention to run for State House. He insists that his decision to contest the 2027 presidency is “final and irreversible.
”“I will not step down for anyone. My decision to oust President Ruto in 2027 is final,” Maraga said, speaking at a United Green Movement (UGM) party meeting in Mombasa.
