Orange Democratic Party (ODM) Secretary General Senator Edwin Sifuna has ignited fresh debate within the opposition after issuing a bold declaration in Murang’a, insisting that no individual or faction has the authority to push him out of the party.
Speaking in Swahili, Sifuna stated, “Hakuna mtu anaeza nifukuza ODM,” a remark that appeared to directly challenge leaders allied to what he termed the Oburu Odinga and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga faction.
Sifuna made the remarks while addressing mourners at the funeral of the late mother of Embakasi South Member of Parliament James Gakuya.
The event was attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, whose presence added political weight to the gathering and drew significant public attention.
The outspoken senator used the platform to comment on internal wrangles within ODM following the passing of the party’s longtime leader, Raila Odinga.
He maintained that ODM belongs to its members and not to a few individuals seeking to control its future direction through intimidation or exclusion.

In a hard-hitting statement, Sifuna also took aim at Suna East MP Junet Mohamed, accusing him of mismanaging resources during the 2022 General Election.
Sifuna alleged that funds meant for ODM agents were misused, a situation he claimed weakened the party’s electoral machinery and gave President William Ruto an edge over Raila Odinga. He emphasized that such issues must be confronted openly if the party is to regain public trust.
Sifuna’s remarks have further exposed deepening divisions within ODM as leaders jostle for influence in the post-Raila era.
While his supporters praised him for speaking boldly and defending internal democracy, critics accused him of fueling unnecessary tension at a delicate moment for the party.
As ODM navigates a critical transition period, Sifuna’s Murang’a declaration is likely to intensify conversations about leadership, accountability, and the future direction of Kenya’s main opposition party.
