Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has raised concerns over the conduct of security agencies and government operatives in Narok Town, following reports that the Democratic Change Party (DCP) candidate was poised to clinch victory in the Narok Township Ward by-election.
In a strongly worded post shared on social media, Gachagua accused the government of resorting to intimidation and unlawful actions after sensing defeat in what had been a closely monitored local race.
The former DP alleged that unidentified individuals, accompanied by police officers, attempted to interfere with election materials shortly after provisional results began circulating online.
According to Gachagua, “the government has sent goons and police to burn ballot boxes and KIEMS kits,” further questioning what he termed as “desperation” from top state leadership.
He singled out President William Ruto and Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu, accusing them of orchestrating activities meant to undermine the outcome of the vote.

However, the allegations could not be independently verified at the time of reporting. Neither the Ministry of Interior nor the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) had issued an official statement responding to the accusations. Local administrators also remained silent as tension continued to rise in parts of Narok Town.
Residents reported increased police presence around the tallying centre, with some saying law enforcement officers had been deployed to prevent confrontations between rival supporters.
Despite the heightened emotions, voting and counting earlier in the day had proceeded relatively smoothly, with observers citing strong voter turnout and orderly conduct in most polling stations.
The Narok Township Ward by-election has drawn national attention due to the rivalry between the ruling coalition and emerging opposition factions.
As stakeholders await official results, calls for transparency and restraint continue to intensify, with leaders urging peaceful handling of the final stages of the electoral process.
