Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has stirred fresh political debate after alleging that some Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) and Principal Secretaries (PSs) in President William Ruto’s administration are planning to defect to the opposition ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking to a large crowd of residents in Githurai, Gachagua made the claims shortly after leaving the home of the late Mrs. Gakuya, the mother of Embakasi North Member of Parliament James Gakuya, in Murang’a County.
According to Gachagua, senior government officials have been secretly reaching out to him, expressing dissatisfaction with the current administration and signaling their intention to join the United Opposition.

He claimed that some of the officials have been calling him late at night, saying they are only waiting for the “right time” to jump ship.
Gachagua alleged that the defections could begin as early as next year, a move he said would significantly weaken President Ruto’s political base.
While he did not mention names, the former DP insisted that the growing unrest within government ranks reflects widespread discontent with the current leadership.
His remarks have sparked mixed reactions, with supporters viewing them as proof of a shifting political tide, while critics dismiss the claims as political propaganda.
The statements come amid intensifying early campaigns and realignments ahead of the 2027 polls, signaling that Kenya’s political temperatures are steadily rising.
