Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched a fresh attack on President William Ruto, accusing him of creating economic conditions that have made it impossible for young Kenyan men to marry.
Speaking at the DCP party headquarters on Tuesday during celebrations for candidates who triumphed in the recent by-elections, Gachagua delivered a fiery speech in which he directly blamed the Head of State for what he termed a “crisis among the youth.”
Gachagua claimed that the majority of young men are unable to start families because they lack stable employment, financial security, and decent housing factors he attributed to the government’s failure to prioritize youth welfare.
“Ruto, you are the reason why young men are not marrying,” he declared passionately, echoing the viral statement captured by Kenyans.co.ke.
He questioned how young men are expected to marry “somebody’s daughter” without a salary, money, or a house.

He further argued that even when young couples try to start families, they face additional hardship because the government’s Social Health Authority (SHA) system, which was intended to support basic health services, is “not working.”
Gachagua accused President Ruto of “abusing young people” by burdening them with policies that do not translate into tangible economic improvement.
He insisted that until youth unemployment and financial instability are addressed, marriage rates among young men will continue to decline.
His remarks come at a time of heightened political tensions between the two leaders, who once campaigned together but have since engaged in public spats over governance, economic direction, and party leadership.
Gachagua’s latest statements add to the growing list of grievances he has aired against the Kenya Kwanza administration.
The comments have sparked wide debate online, with many Kenyans reacting strongly to his assertions about the economic strain facing young families.
