Former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto has officially joined the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), bringing to an end his long association with Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM).
The move marks a significant political realignment for the seasoned politician, who in the past stunned many Kenyans by backing the opposition during a general election in which President William Ruto was on the ballot.
Isaac Ruto’s political gamble at the time proved costly, as he went on to lose his Bomet gubernatorial seat. However, his latest decision signals a strategic shift, with allies saying he has chosen to “fight from within” the ruling party.
Sources close to the former governor indicate that he is keen on recapturing the Bomet governorship, currently held by Governor Prof. Hillary Barchok.
On Tuesday, Isaac Ruto and Governor Barchok jointly visited the UDA headquarters in Nairobi, a show of unity that underscores efforts to consolidate the party’s strength in Bomet County.
The visit coincided with consultations ahead of UDA’s grassroots elections scheduled for January 10, 2026.
