Embakasi East Member of Parliament Honorable Babu Owino has finally spoken out following a dramatic and alarming incident in which Kileleshwa Ward MCA Honorable Robert Alai allegedly drew a gun on him at a restaurant in Nairobi’s Kilimani area.
The incident, which occurred at a popular restaurant along Lenana Road, has sparked widespread public concern due to the presence of many civilians at the time.
In a detailed press statement, Babu Owino described the incident as a direct and unprovoked attack on his life.
According to the MP, he had gone to the restaurant yesterday afternoon at the invitation of a senior clergyman friend.
Having released his security detail for the Christmas holidays, Babu said he drove himself and arrived at around 3:40 p.m., holding a brief meeting that lasted about twenty minutes.
As he was leaving the restaurant, Babu noticed a group of acquaintances seated at a nearby table and decided to greet them out of courtesy.

Among them was MCA Robert Alai. It was at this point that the situation reportedly escalated.
Babu claims that Alai, without provocation, accused him of orchestrating social media attacks against Alai’s wife. The MP firmly denied the allegations, stating that he does not know Alai’s wife and has never involved family members in political battles.
Babu further explained that the confrontation quickly turned violent. He alleged that the MCA became aggressive, pushed him, drew a pistol, and struck him on the chest and jaw with the firearm, all in full view of shocked patrons.
Despite the threat, Babu says he remained calm and urged Alai to explain his actions. Although the MCA briefly appeared to cool down, he later reignited the confrontation by pouring a glass of water on Babu’s face as a crowd gathered.
Fearing further escalation and wishing to avoid a physical confrontation in a public space, the MP immediately left the restaurant and reported the matter at Kilimani Police Station.
In his statement, Babu Owino described the incident as part of a sustained campaign of harassment, threats, and violence against him, which he claims began after the death of ODM leader Raila Odinga.
He called on relevant authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly and take action in accordance with the law, stressing that leaders must uphold dignity, restraint, and respect for the rule of law.
