The political temperature in Mount Kenya continues to rise following the concluded Mbeere North by-election, with Cabinet Secretary Hon. Ruku is now weighing in on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s reaction to the results.
Ruku, who previously served as the area’s Member of Parliament before joining the Cabinet, openly celebrated the victory of the United Democratic Party candidate, urging Gachagua to accept the outcome and move on.
Speaking during a post-election address, CS Ruku dismissed Gachagua’s claims that the by-election was manipulated.
He insisted that the process was transparent and credible, reflecting the true will of the people of Mbeere North. According to him, Gachagua’s allegations were unnecessary and only served to cause tension among residents.

Ruku went further, advising the former Deputy President to “stop disturbing the people of the Mount Kenya region.”
In a statement that has since sparked widespread debate, he told Gachagua to return to his home in Wamunyoro and focus on spending time with his wife and raising his grandchildren. Ruku argued that the region needs peace and unity, not political disruption.
He added that the results of the Mbeere North by-election were a clear indication of the Mount Kenya region’s unwavering support for President William Ruto.
According to Ruku, the residents demonstrated through their votes that they stand firmly behind the Kenya Kwanza administration and will continue to do so in future electoral contests.
As leaders from both sides continue exchanging statements, the by-election outcome appears to have deepened existing political divisions within the Mount Kenya bloc, setting the stage for intensified political realignments ahead of future elections.
