Embu County is once again bracing for a heated political showdown after the declaration of two fresh by-elections, barely days after the dramatic Mbeere North parliamentary contest.
The political temperature in the region continues to rise as rival camps realign ahead of what many observers predict will be another bruising battle between President William Ruto and his former deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.
Just recently, the United Democratic Party (UDA) secured victory in the Mbeere North by-election, where Leo Wamudhende was declared the winner with a narrow margin of about 400 votes.
The race was closely watched across the country as it symbolized the growing rift and emerging power struggles between Ruto and Gachagua, who now leads the Democratic Change Party (DCP).

In a new twist, Embu County Speaker has announced that the Muminji Ward and Evurore Ward seats have officially been declared vacant.
This follows the resignation of Hon. Karsh and Hon. Duncan Mbui, who both stepped down to vie for the Mbeere North parliamentary seat in the just-concluded race.
Their departure now sets the stage for yet another pair of by-elections that could reshape local political dynamics.
The upcoming contests are expected to escalate the rivalry between the UDA and DCP camps, with supporters from both sides already signaling readiness for a vigorous campaign.
Political analysts argue that the mini-polls will serve as a crucial test of strength, especially for Gachagua, who has been seeking to solidify his political base in the Mount Kenya region.
Kenyans are now keenly watching to see whether the DCP will field candidates in the two Embu wards, potentially extending the Ruto–Gachagua confrontation.
As campaigns prepare to kick off, all eyes remain fixed on Embu County, the newest battleground in Kenya’s rapidly shifting political landscape.
