The political temperature around Edwin Sifuna’s 2027 presidential ambitions has risen sharply after Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale delivered a pointed assessment of the numbers he believes could shape the next election.

He said Ruto was already assured of the required 25 percent support across 45 counties, although such support will ultimately have to be demonstrated through votes cast in the election.
Duale then turned his attention to Sifuna, making a striking claim about the senator’s current political footprint.
“Sifuna ako na Bungoma pekee,” Duale said, arguing that Sifuna’s support is currently concentrated in Bungoma County.
The remarks come as Sifuna continues building his national profile and advancing his presidential ambitions under the Linda Mwananchi political movement.
Earlier this year, he announced plans for a major Bungoma meeting to discuss the opposition’s roadmap towards the 2027 General Election.
Duale’s comments therefore place the question of national reach at the centre of Sifuna’s presidential challenge. A presidential candidate must secure more than half of the votes cast nationally and at least 25 percent of votes cast in more than half of Kenya’s 47 counties.
However, Duale’s assessment is a political claim rather than an election result. The actual strength of every candidate will only become clear through voter registration, campaigning, polling and ultimately the 2027 ballot.
For Sifuna, the remarks underline the scale of the task ahead as he seeks to transform his growing political profile into nationwide support.
