NAIROBI, Kenya — Political realignments in Kenya continue to gather momentum as party leaders re-evaluate their political futures ahead of upcoming contestations.
In a fresh blow to President William Ruto’s ruling party, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has suffered a significant setback in Western Kenya following a high-profile defection.
Isaac Omery, the UDA Chairperson for Nambale Constituency in Busia County, has officially dumped the ruling party and joined the burgeoning Linda Mwananchi Movement.
In a viral video circulating across social media platforms, Omery was captured publicly renouncing his allegiance to the ruling party while donning the symbolic attire of the opposition-backed movement.

Speaking to supporters, the grassroot leader expressed dissatisfaction with current governance policies, citing rising living costs and unfulfilled campaign promises in the region as key drivers for his departure.
“The ground has shifted, and our people are demanding genuine representation that speaks directly to their daily economic struggles,” Omery noted during the announcement.
The defection marks a notable shift in Busia County’s local political dynamics, where ruling coalition grassroots officials have come under increasing pressure from local constituencies.
This latest move coincides with intensifying political activity across the opposition camp. The Linda Mwananchi wave continues to gain traction across multiple counties, positioning itself as a formidable political vehicle.
Within unified opposition circles, political chatter points toward Nairobi County Senator Edwin Sifuna emerging as a preferred figurehead to champion the movement’s agenda.
Omery’s exit highlights the growing friction at the constituency level as local leaders position themselves ahead of future electoral cycles. Neither UDA national officials nor party delegates from Busia County have officially commented on the Nambale leadership vacancy.
