Embakasi East Member of Parliament Hon. Babu Owino on Tuesday made a significant visit to the home of the late Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader, Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga, in Opoda and Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, Siaya County.
This visit comes barely weeks after Raila was laid to rest on October 19, 2025, and at a time when political tension is rising over who will take over the revered position of Luo community kingpin.
The battle for the Luo political crown has intensified, with several leaders positioning themselves as potential successors.
A section of residents has thrown their support behind Babu Owino, while others insist they are not concerned about who steps into Raila’s shoes.
Despite the ongoing political debate, Babu’s visit to the Odinga homestead was marked by pomp, respect, and cultural symbolism.

Upon arrival, Babu Owino was received warmly in the presence of Mama Ida Odinga. He presented her with a Holy Bible, describing it as a “sacred compass” meant to guide and strengthen her in the days ahead. In a gesture deeply rooted in Luo tradition, he also delivered bulls to the family—an act symbolizing honour, unity, and respect.
“Today, I went to Opoda and Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, places steeped in legacy and honor,” Babu said in his statement. “With deep respect, I presented Mama Ida Odinga with a Holy Bible… In the same spirit of reverence, I offered bulls as a symbol of respect and a timeless gesture of honor. May Baba’s soul rest in peace.”
Babu Owino, who is also preparing to challenge Governor Johnson Sakaja for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the 2027 elections, said his visit was purely one of respect and remembrance. Nonetheless, the political undertones surrounding Luo succession continue to shape the national conversation, placing leaders like Babu firmly in the spotlight.
