Embakasi East Member of Parliament Honorable Babu Owino has finally broken his silence following claims that he instructed controversial blogger Maverick Aoko to attack Mama Ida Odinga, the wife of the late Orange Democratic Party (ODM) leader Honorable Raila Odinga, on social media.
The allegations sparked widespread outrage online, with many Kenyans accusing Aoko of crossing the line in her remarks about the Odinga family.
As pressure mounted, a section of the public demanded that Babu Owino publicly call out Aoko, arguing that she is widely perceived as his close supporter and blogger, and that her posts often appear to echo his political stance.
In a detailed statement, Babu Owino strongly distanced himself from the attacks and dismissed claims that he had any role in directing Aoko’s online posts.

He acknowledged his friendship with Maverick Aoko and appreciated her support but emphasized that she operates independently and makes her own decisions regarding what she posts on X.
“Maverick Aoko is my friend and a fierce supporter, for which I am truly grateful,” Babu stated. “However, people often assume that I control what she posts. That is not true. She is independent-minded, and I do not know her sources, nor have I ever instructed her to attack the Odinga family.”
The MP further highlighted his close personal relationship with the Odinga family, making it clear that he would never insult Mama Ida Odinga. He revealed that he shares a warm bond with Raila Odinga’s children, including Winnie, Raila Junior, and Rosemary Odinga.
“Winnie is my friend, Junior is my friend, and Rosemary is my friend too. How can I insult their only mother?” he posed. Babu added that Mama Ida has always treated him like a son, welcoming him into her home and showing him kindness whenever he visits.
“She has been good to me, and I love her,” Babu concluded, urging Kenyans not to associate him with sentiments he does not hold.
