Kenyans continue to demand clarity over the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of the late Lugari Member of Parliament, Hon. Cyrus Jirongo, following the emergence of a new witness whose account sharply contradicts that of the Climax bus driver.
Immediately after the fatal accident along the Nairobi–Nakuru highway, the bus driver claimed that Hon. Jirongo caused the crash by failing to observe his lane while exiting Eagol Petrol Station, allegedly driving into the path of the oncoming bus that was heading from Nairobi to Busia.
The driver further alleged that there was heavy traffic at the time of the accident, contributing to the collision.
However, a new witness linked to a white Toyota Probox captured on CCTV footage at the petrol station has offered a different version of events. According to their statement, they had stopped at Eagol Petrol Station to refill wiper fluid due to poor visibility.
While still within the station, they observed Hon. Jirongo exit and head toward Nairobi. Moments later, they heard a loud bang and saw a bus dragging Jirongo’s vehicle.

Contrary to the driver’s claims, the witness stated that when they exited the petrol station, it was dark and there was no traffic on the road. They added that they briefly stopped near the scene at the request of the petrol station guard to assist in rescue efforts.
Without alighting from their vehicle, they used their headlights to illuminate the wreckage, as no other motorists had arrived at the scene at that moment. They left shortly afterward when other vehicles began arriving and traffic slowly built up.
This account is supported by a detailed progress report released by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
According to the DCI, detectives traced and interviewed individuals associated with the Toyota Probox, registration number KDJ 564E, which was seen entering the petrol station shortly after Hon. Jirongo.
The vehicle is registered to Keringet Ward MCA and Nakuru County Assembly Majority Leader Hon. William Mutai and was allegedly hired out to Denis Kipyegon Koech on December 11, 2025.
The DCI report confirms that Koech and his family were indeed at the petrol station at the time of the accident and corroborates their claim of hearing the impact and briefly assisting by lighting the scene.
As investigations continue, the DCI has assured the family of Hon. Jirongo and the public that all claims are being thoroughly interrogated. The emergence of conflicting accounts has only intensified public interest, with many Kenyans calling for a transparent, impartial probe to establish what truly happened on that fateful night.
