A fresh political storm is gathering around President William Ruto after Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara delivered a pointed message on the growing exchanges between the President and retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Kihara argued that the government should not spend too much energy responding to Uhuru’s political statements, saying its performance should speak for itself. Read Full Article Here
Speaking during a K24 breakfast interview on September 28, Kihara said that if the economy were performing strongly, Kenyans would pay little attention to criticism directed at the administration.
“You cannot keep on telling us who said what. If you are working, we’ll not even realise that Uhuru is talking. Just do your work,” Kihara said.
She went further, arguing that the economic situation determines how much weight Kenyans attach to political criticism.
“If Kenya’s economy was running, even if Uhuru says what, nobody would even listen to him,” she stated.
Her remarks place government performance at the centre of the debate, rather than the increasingly public political exchanges between Ruto and Uhuru.
Kihara suggested that repeatedly responding to critics could actually give their statements greater attention, especially when some Kenyans are experiencing economic difficulties.
The remarks come at a politically sensitive moment, with the 2027 General Election approaching and economic performance remaining a major subject of public debate.
For Kihara, the message to the administration is straightforward: concentrate on delivering results, because visible performance could matter more to Kenyans than political arguments.
