The movement has formally settled on Sifuna as its leader and presidential candidate following a principals’ retreat held on September 26.
The decision brought together several senior figures, including Sifuna, Babu Owino, Boni Khalwale, George Natembeya, Godfrey Osotsi and others.
Khalwale has now revealed what happened behind the scenes, saying the decision to endorse Sifuna was unanimous.
According to him, leaders were given an opportunity to present their preferred political parties before the group agreed on a way forward.
The major breakthrough, however, came with another important decision. Khalwale said Sifuna was given the authority to determine the political vehicle he will use for his presidential campaign, after the principals failed to settle on one party.
That development could give Sifuna greater room to negotiate with different political formations as the opposition landscape continues to shift.
The movement also agreed to pursue cooperation with like-minded parties, opening the door for broader political partnerships ahead of the 2027 General Election.
For Sifuna, the latest development removes one of the biggest uncertainties surrounding his bid: whether Linda Mwananchi would stand behind a single presidential candidate.
The focus now turns to the political party he will choose and how effectively the movement can translate its newly declared unity into a national campaign structure.
