Wanga claimed that Sifuna, Babu and Orengo had previously declared that ODM was finished following the death of Raila Odinga. She now argues that the political developments surrounding the trio tell a different story.
According to Wanga, the leaders who predicted ODM’s collapse are themselves experiencing disagreements as political realignments intensify ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Her remarks come at a time when the opposition landscape has undergone significant changes. Sifuna, Babu and Orengo have been central figures in the Linda Mwananchi formation, although differences over political strategy and the vehicle to use in the 2027 election have recently emerged.
The disagreements have particularly focused on the political party that should carry the movement, with Babu associated with the Mwananchi Party while Sifuna has been linked to the Ukombozi People’s Party. Orengo has also expressed interest in the movement’s presidential ticket.
However, the three leaders have also demonstrated efforts to maintain cooperation. On September 26, reports indicated that Sifuna, Babu and other Linda Mwananchi principals held a retreat and reaffirmed their commitment to working together.
Wanga’s latest remarks therefore add another layer to the increasingly competitive opposition politics.
As 2027 approaches, the battle over political identity, alliances and leadership is becoming more intense, with both ODM and emerging opposition formations seeking to demonstrate their strength.
