The endorsement came after weeks of uncertainty over who would ultimately lead Linda Mwananchi into the 2027 General Election.
Sifuna had increasingly emerged as the preferred candidate among several leaders, but Orengo had also openly expressed interest in seeking the presidential ticket.
Reports indicate that Orengo missed the September 26 retreat, where Sifuna was endorsed.
Members of the movement said the Siaya governor had sent his apologies because he was attending to a sick family member, insisting that his absence should not automatically be interpreted as evidence of a split.
However, the timing has created fresh questions because Orengo had previously argued that competing presidential ambitions should be subjected to a credible process before one candidate was selected.
Linda Mwananchi has now declared that Sifuna will lead the unveiling of the political party through which he is expected to contest the presidency in early October. The movement has also announced plans to work with other political parties sharing its objectives.
The development places Sifuna firmly at the centre of Linda Mwananchi’s presidential project, while Orengo’s future role remains a subject of political interest.
For now, the movement says it is united. But with one major figure missing from the meeting that settled its presidential question, the coming weeks could reveal whether the declaration has truly ended the internal contest or merely opened a new chapter.
