Rarieda Member of Parliament Honorable Otiende Amollo has finally responded to growing reports claiming that he intends to challenge Siaya County Governor His Excellency James Orengo in the 2027 general election.
The speculation, which has been circulating widely on social media and political circles within Siaya County, alleged that the outspoken legislator was preparing to vie for the governor’s seat as a way of “teaching Orengo a lesson” for allegedly failing to fully align himself with the Orange Democratic Party (ODM) during the ongoing discussions surrounding the broad-based government.
However, speaking in a video that has since been shared online, Otiende Amollo firmly dismissed the claims, making it clear that he has no intentions of contesting for the Siaya gubernatorial seat in 2027. The senior advocate instead confirmed that his focus remains on defending his Rarieda parliamentary seat.
According to Amollo, his decision is driven by a strong sense of responsibility to the people who elected him. He stated that he has several development projects and legislative initiatives currently underway, which he believes must be completed before considering any other political ambitions.

“I was elected by the people of Rarieda to serve them as their Member of Parliament, and I still have unfinished business,” Amollo said. “There are projects and commitments I made to the people who believed in my vision, and I feel morally and politically obligated to see them through.”
The MP also downplayed claims of political fallout between himself and Governor Orengo, insisting that internal party discussions within ODM should not be used to fuel unnecessary political tension in the county.
His clarification appears to put to rest weeks of speculation and underscores his commitment to continuity and service delivery.
As the 2027 general election slowly approaches, Amollo’s remarks signal a preference for stability over political rivalry, at least for now, within Siaya County’s leadership landscape.
