Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Hon. Oburu Odinga has finally bowed to mounting pressure from Embakasi East Member of Parliament Hon. Babu Owino, agreeing to one of the most contentious demands within the party’s leadership ranks.
The development has sparked fresh debate about the future direction of ODM ahead of key political realignments.
Speaking during a meeting attended by Siaya County Governor James Orengo, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, Millie Odhiambo, and Senator Asige, Babu Owino reiterated his long-standing call for the convening of a National Delegates Convention (NDC).

Babu maintained that the NDC would allow party members to openly address leadership issues and give youthful leaders a chance to shape the party’s future. He further stated that he is ready to take over ODM leadership should the delegates give him the mandate.
In a video seen by this publication, Oburu Odinga, while addressing supporters at a public event, confirmed that he would call for an NDC meeting. He said the move was aimed at resolving internal party disagreements and strengthening ODM’s unity and democratic culture.
Oburu emphasized that the party must remain cohesive and focused on its ideals, noting that internal democracy is key to ODM’s survival. His declaration has been welcomed by some members, while others view it as a test of the party’s readiness for generational transition.
